Builders Community × Vinge · legal for startups and our first hub partner

Friday Builders Community with Vinge, the first partner we have announced for the hub. Three Vinge lawyers on raising capital as a founder: use of proceeds, dilution, shareholders' agreements and the term sheet, followed by a long Q&A and a matchmaking demo built by one of the hub companies.

A full hub on a Friday afternoon. Vinge introduced itself as the first of several hub partners we will announce, and it works both ways: founders get access to Vinge's expertise, and Vinge learns from companies at the earliest stage. From 29 October Vinge is at the hub every Thursday.

start with use of proceeds: how much you need, what it pays for, and how long it lasts
valuation and dilution, and why the right investor matters more than the highest number
the shareholders' agreement is the single most important document, especially in a 50/50 company
sign an NDA before you open the data room, and keep good corporate housekeeping from day one
the term sheet sets the deal, so start the raise in time

Tim Brandin from TR8S showed the matchmaking app he built in one to two weeks. The room answered where their companies are (an idea and first customers were the most common answers) and which legal question comes next (raising from investors), then everyone went off to find their match.
