Friday Builders Community with Open Sverige back at the hub. A free, Discord-based community of AI builders showed how they work: daily demos, unpolished and in public. A member demoed a language model running locally on a phone, and the hub filled up with developers.
how it went
Open Sverige came back to the hub, four weeks after their first visit. Johan Engwall presented the community: free, open to anyone who builds with AI or wants to, and run on Discord. It has grown from about 600 to about 750 members in those four weeks. Then came the demo, and an afternoon with a room full of developers at ai:gothenburg.
how Open Sverige works
- daily demos on Discord, unplanned: anyone can jump in, show what they are building and get feedback
- practice over polish: show the unfinished thing, learn and iterate
- new members get one question first: what are you building?
- AI assistants in the Discord help members find information
the demo
A member showed an app that runs a language model locally on the phone. The point was less the app itself and more how it gets built: generate a command, paste it into Termux, and the app updates right there on the phone. The idea is to connect it to other apps, like Obsidian, to chat with your own notes. Next on the list: a loading bar, because waiting for the model to load is boring.
